Legal & Policies
Last updated: August 2026. StormReady USA is an independent recovery resource, not a government agency.
1. Privacy Policy
StormReady USA ("we", "us", "our") respects your privacy. This policy explains what we collect and how we use it.
Information we collect
- Information you provide: If you use our free checklist tool, you may enter a ZIP code and email address. The ZIP is used to personalize the checklist you generate in your browser. Your email is stored only in your device's local browser storage unless you explicitly submit it through a future, clearly-labeled sign-up form.
- Automatically collected data: Like most websites, we may collect standard analytics (pages visited, approximate location via IP, device type) through privacy-respecting analytics and, in the future, advertising partners (see Advertising & Cookies).
- Live data: Active storm and flood alerts shown on this site are retrieved in real time from the U.S. National Weather Service public API. We do not store or share that data about you.
How we use information
- To generate and deliver the preparedness checklist you request.
- To improve the site and (where enabled) to measure and target advertising.
- We do not sell your personal information.
Your choices
You may clear locally stored data at any time via your browser settings. For questions, contact hello@stormreadyusa.org.
2. Terms of Use
By using this site you agree to the following:
- Content is provided for general preparedness education only. It is not a substitute for official instructions from FEMA, NOAA, NWS, local emergency management, or a licensed professional.
- During an active emergency, always follow official orders (evacuation, shelter-in-place) over any guidance on this site.
- Product recommendations are editorial and independently selected. Prices, availability, and specifications change and may differ from what is shown here.
- We are not responsible for any loss or damage arising from reliance on this site. Use at your own risk.
3. Affiliate Disclosure
Affiliate Disclosure: StormReady USA is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases at no extra cost to you. Recommendations are independently selected and not influenced by commission rates. 5% of net affiliate revenue is donated quarterly to the American Red Cross. StormReady USA is not affiliated with FEMA, NOAA, NWS, USGS, Amazon, or the American Red Cross unless explicitly stated.
4. Advertising & Cookies
This site may display third-party advertising (including but not limited to Google AdSense or similar networks). These partners may use cookies, web beacons, and similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. You can opt out of personalized advertising through your browser settings or the relevant ad-network opt-out tools. No advertising identifier is ever linked to your submitted checklist data.
